Post Traumatic Vacation Disorder

Getting away for a vacation sometimes has the reverse effect of what it was intended to do.  I think I have stumbled upon a new disorder to add to the list of problems I have.  PTVD as I am going to call it, begins to manifest itself  about a day before you are scheduled to go back home.  It then hangs on for several days as you try to get back to the order of your daily living.
The minute I found myself at the shoreline I determined that it really was a feeling of peacefulness and serenity that made me happy.  I then said to my Dad, you named me SHELLey because of the word shell and you knew I was a seashore girl from the beginning!  No, he said, your mom picked that name out because of Shelley Winters.  Well, talk about bursting my bubble!!  He said his choice was Glen for a boy or girl.  The deal was made that if it was a girl, Mom got to pick the name, boy- Dad's call.  I liked my version of the story better.  I am just going to keep that little fairy tale to myself and continue to pretend!
We had the opportunity to take a road trip within our vacation.  Traveling down to the keys, for the first time in over 35 years.  I remember the drive being "forever", but this time it seemed to pass quickly as I absorbed the view along the way.  When we got there I noticed all the things I remembered were very different.  Things change a lot over the years and I must say, I found them to my liking.    I would love to live on an Island in one of those pastel colored little cottages, I thought.  I looked around at all the things I was attracted to and realized that hey, I do live on an island and I do live in a little pastel colored cottage!  We have a main street that I can walk or ride my bike along the sidewalks and stop and have breakfast at an outside café (Bishops Cottage).  I can wander down to the waterfront and watch some of the most beautiful sunsets (thank you Pachota’s).  Although, while I am watching the sun fall from the sky,  I am not going to see the crazy guy who trained his house cats to do tricks nor the chickens that are running around like squirrels on the town streets.
We were able to take a boat ride over to Sunset Key for breakfast at the restaurant Latitudes, and the view was intoxicating!  I never wanted to leave, maybe I could be a waitress or hostess and take in the beauty on a daily basis.   But, as I have discovered, I would just take that for granted in time.   Just like I am, living where I am.  Plus, when I got home I went to Realtor.com to check out the real estate on Sunset Key and found it was going to set me back at least 5 million dollars!  So in order to live anywhere in the Key West area, I would have to settle for a trailer home somewhere off the beaten path.  Moral of this story-  I need to work on changing my Attitude regarding my Latitude!
Glad to be home…. Because my friends are here and I missed them!
